Okinawa Trip 2011
Sensei Warren Berto along with Alaska Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Students Sensei Chris Peabody, Sensei Susan Henry from Whidbey Island, WA and Sensei Doug Noaeill from Anchorage, AK recently visited with Hanshi Zenpo Shimabukuro at the hombo dojo in Chatan-Cho Okinawa, Japan. Arriving on October 7th and training through October 19th. Students Sensei Chris Peabody, Sensei Susan Henry and Sensei Doug Noaeill , participated at the Karate and Kobudo Exchange Festival. They took part on the demonstration team performing the kata kusanku at the Budokan in Naha, Okinawa on October 15th. Sensei Peabody also performed in a demonstration of Matayashi Kobudo showing bo kata and tonfa kata.
As a group we also attended opening ceremonies at the Shuri Castle, visited the Aquarium park, and Ryuku Mura Village. It is always a delight to experience the culture, food and sounds of Okinawa.
During our visit we also trained with Sensei Berto from Whidbey Island, WA Sensei Smith from Atlanta, Georgia, and Sensei Mesara from Germany. We look forward to the upcoming trip to Okinawa in October 2012.
AUGUST 12th at the Oak Harbor Seibukan dojo testing was held. Congratulations to everyone who was promoted.
